{"id":682,"date":"2020-05-27T21:55:20","date_gmt":"2020-05-27T21:55:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/university-communications.ncsu.edu\/documentation\/?page_id=682"},"modified":"2026-07-21T11:34:30","modified_gmt":"2026-07-21T15:34:30","slug":"homepage-configuration","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/university-communications.ncsu.edu\/documentation\/products-and-tools\/nc-state-web-platform\/site-settings\/homepage-configuration\/","title":{"rendered":"Homepage Configuration"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Overview<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A custom-looking homepage can be easily built through creative configuration of regular <a href=\"https:\/\/university-communications.ncsu.edu\/documentation\/products-and-tools\/nc-state-web-platform\/available-blocks\/\">theme blocks<\/a> and special homepage blocks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Changing the Page Template<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The homepage uses a different page template. To change the template, go to &#8220;Document&#8221; in the right-hand settings panel. Then go to Page Attributes -&gt; Template and change the template to &#8220;Homepage.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-full\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1500\" height=\"758\" src=\"https:\/\/university-communications.ncsu.edu\/documentation\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/21\/2020\/05\/homepage-template-1.gif\" alt=\"A GIF showing where to find the page template options in the right sidebar in the WordPress editor.\" class=\"wp-image-779\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Header<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">There are two recommended header options for a homepage. Those options include:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Floating Box Header: This header displays a still image or silent video footage at 100% of the page width. A callout box can also be laid on top of the imagery with a call-to-action to another page of your site.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Split Header: This header displays as a 50-50 split between a still image and text on top of a colored background.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Page Body<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The special homepage blocks sit within a container known as a Split Container block.
