Building Emails

Start Your Email

Once you’ve reviewed the Getting Started page and chosen the tier that works for you, log in at email.web.ncsu.edu/login using your Unity ID and password. Then, follow the steps below to start a new email.

  1. From your dashboard’s left menu, hover over the template you would like to use and click “Add New.”
  2. In your new email, type in the email name to make it easy to reference later. In the “Settings” menu on the right, fill in the email’s “Subject” and “Teaser” fields.

Build With Blocks

You’ll build your email by using various blocks to control the flow and layout while remaining on brand. When you create a new email, it automatically includes a header, body content and footer depending on the template you’ve selected.

Before using any blocks with images, review the Image Guidelines to ensure optimal display and performance.

From the editor, follow the steps below to make adjustments and start building.

  1. Header
Start by updating the header settings. Always use only one header per email, placed at the beginning to establish NC State branding and proper accessibility structure.
    • Click on the header and select the “Switch to Edit” pencil icon, or open the “Settings” panel, found next to “Publish.”
    • To switch to a different header block, click the plus sign (+) in the email body or the blue plus sign in the top left corner of the editor. Choose your new header, and update its settings. Delete the other header to ensure only one header is used.

  1. Body Content
Add your body content by updating the existing template blocks or adding new ones.
    • To edit a block’s settings, click on it and select the “Switch to Edit” pencil icon, or open the “Settings” panel, found next to “Publish.”
    • To add a block, click the plus sign (+) in the email body or the blue plus sign in the top left corner of the editor. Search or browse for blocks; hover to preview; then click to add it.
    • When adding a URL to a block, always use the full URL beginning with https://

  1. Footer
Update your footer. Footers are required by law because they provide an unsubscribe link and essential contact information. Always use only one footer per email, placed at the end to establish NC State branding and proper accessibility structure.
    • Click on the footer and select the “Switch to Edit” pencil icon, or open the “Settings” panel, found next to “Publish”
    • Select your email marketing platform from the “Sender” dropdown menu.
