NC State Web Platform Release 3.9

Included in this update of the NC State Platform, users will now have access to Content Audit Tools, allowing site editors to schedule and track audits of their content. Also included is an update to Google’s Roboto webfont and the Utility Bar.

Release Highlight: Content Audit Tools

This month our team is introducing a new feature: Content Audit Tools. This feature adds a sidebar to pages where site editors can handle scheduling and conducting audits of the content on their webpages. There will now be a widget within the Dashboard where content maintainers can track pages and whether they are overdue or close to overdue. This tool will make overall site governance more easily achievable as it helps users maintain their content’s relevance.

A first look at the Content Audit Tools sidebar. Here site maintainers can indicate that a page has been audited, and the frequency of when the page’s content needs to be reviewed.
The Content Audit Tools widget found in the WordPress dashboard which provides updates on upcoming audits or audits that are overdue.

Additional Features

These are smaller updates that should improve users’ experiences as they use the platform. Some of them will be obvious, while others may go unnoticed behind the scenes.

Platform Enhancements

  • Webfonts have been updated to Roboto Slab, Roboto, and Roboto Condensed from Glypha, Univers, and Univers Condensed respectively. This is part of the university’s shift to using free open source typography in digital mediums.
  • An update to the Utility Bar now includes the ability to include Wolf Alerts on your site. It also allows you to toggle off Wolf Alerts for sites located in areas where the Wolf Alerts are not relevant.

Quality of Life Enhancements

  • When a footer map is not included from the NC State Settings panel a standard map will be pulled from the CDN (a map can still be uploaded manually).
  • The “Archive” has been removed from the Calendar’s Page Title.
  • The character limit on the meta description field has been removed.

Bug Fixes

If these items are news to you — great! If they aren’t — they should now be fixed.

  • Corrected issue where bullets would show both unordered list bullets and ordered list bullets, overlapping each other, after the parent list was changed from an ordered list to an unordered list.
  • Addressed styling issue with the Gravity Forms “Next” button.
  • Reconciled issue with unordered lists text alignment.
  • Fixed issue where the Events block was not showing all possible departments/groups in the drop-down selector due to an API call limit.
  • Resolved styling issues with the Featured Content block.
