NC State Theme Release 4.6

New analytics reports, better Slate integration, and a red compact masthead version are just a few of the new features in v4.6 of the NC State Theme.

We’re excited to announce the release of version 4.6 of the NC State Theme, bringing a very large number of feature improvements along with many quality of life enhancements and bug fixes. A selection of the included updates that will be more noticeable to content maintainers and site administrators are below.

New Features

  • New Analytics Dashboard Widget: A new section in the dashboard widget provides easy access to your site’s analytics reports. Checkout this example report to see what metrics are included.

  • Custom Post Type Filters: You can now dynamically populate filter options for Custom Post Type (CPT) archives and adjust how many items are displayed before a “Show More” option in the sidebar.
  • Gravity Forms Slate Integration: Coming in late October, site administrators and content maintainers will be able to create Gravity Forms that can feed information into Slate for student recruitment purposes.
  • Slate Embed Form Expansion: The Slate Embed Form, previously available only on Pages, is now also available for Posts and Events.
  • Day of Giving 2024 Block Pattern (Pro and Premium Tiers): A new block pattern showcasing the benefits of Day of Giving 2024 has been added to the Events category. Previous block patterns have been reorganized into updated block pattern categories.
  • Vertical Video Block (Premium Tier): The Vertical Video block, previously only available on the main NC State and news sites, is now available for all users.
  • Compact Masthead Customization (Premium Tier): You can now change the Compact Masthead’s navigation bar color to red, offering more flexibility in branding.

Quality of Life Enhancements

  • Private and Protected Posts: Enhanced functionality for private and protected post titles now uses WordPress hooks.
  • Block Patterns and Widgets: Updated block pattern categories and rearranged theme widgets for a better user experience.
  • Tribe Events Calendar: NC State Theme’s fonts now take priority over those used by the Tribe Events Calendar.
  • Enhanced Meta and SEO Functions: Improvements have been made to better handle titles on archive pages.

Bug Fixes

  • URL Query Issue: A bug where extra slashes appeared in query URLs has been fixed.
  • Corrected Element Sizing: Issues with fixed-width elements, editor sizing for Synced Pattern containers, and missing styles in Fancy Paragraph Quotes have been resolved.
  • Post Feed Source Dropdown: The source dropdown in the Posts Feed block, which was previously missing, is now restored.
  • Accessibility Improvements: Updated styles for the Slate Embed Form block to improve accessibility.
  • Bold Link Component: Fixed an issue where links were not automatically populated with post titles.
