Blockquote Block

Overview

The Block Quote block is designed for referencing longer excerpts from external sources. A block quote is typically used to display content from another body of work such as a research article, annual report or strategic plan.

A good rule of thumb is to use a block quote if a quoted excerpt is going to be more than three lines of a paragraph when displayed on a desktop. In these scenarios, using a Blockquote block will help make the excerpt easier to read and identify within your page.

Features

To add a Blockquote block to a page, take the steps provided below:

  1. From the WordPress editor, open the block inserter
  2. From the drop down, search for the Blockquote block and select it
  3. Now that it is added to your page, enter or paste your quoted content into the block

Edit and Format Content

After adding your content, you can make styling adjustments as needed. Use the block toolbar above the block to apply formatting options, such as text styling or other available controls.

Use Cases

The Block Quote block is ideal for:

  • Referencing extended excerpts from external resources
  • Highlighting important information on content-dense pages
  • Visually distinguishing cited material from the main body text

Note: The Quote block is a separate option and is typically used for shorter pull quotes rather than long-form excerpts.
