NC State People Plugin Update Roundup

In case you missed it, several updates have been made with the NC State People Plugin (versions 3.2, 3.3, & 3.4) in prior releases of the NC State Web Platform. These updates help site administrators better manage their faculty and staff directories while also improving our suite of web tools with new enhancements. These recent updates to the NC State People plugin include new functionalities and feature introductions which have expanded:

  • how profiles can be updated with a variety of Grant display options,
  • how your user communities can get to know one another better with name pronunciation capabilities for each user profile within a site directory, and
  • how content maintainers can more effectively display groups of people on the same page, using new block types and group taxonomies.

These updates have been deployed to sites in recent months.

Updates to the NC State People Plugin

Plugin Updates with version 3.4 of NC State People (Oct. 2021)

  • NameCoach for Name Pronunciation
    • The in-browser name pronunciation tool NameCoach is a now a featured integration within NC State People.
    • NameCoach bridges the gap between those who may be unfamiliar with the pronunciation of someone’s name and get to know them better by allowing users to share a URL that links to an audio recording of how their name is pronounced.
    • Our integration with NameCoach now makes it even easier to share the correct pronunciation of one’s name by including a unique field that lets you share your NameCoach NameBadge URL directly in your profile. When this field is populated, a speaker icon is displayed next to your name and opens a new window/tab featuring your NameBadge when clicked.
  • Displaying People and Groups in Page
    • The Person Card block has been renamed to the Content Card block and now allows for multiple individuals to be listed within the block. Additionally, there is a new Group Contact Cards block intended for displaying a group taxonomy (e.g. Faculty, Staff, etc.) in a page or post.
  • Other Features
    • The CV field can also now link out to an external URL rather than only accepting a file upload, and the title of “Graduate” has been changed to “Graduate Student” to provide greater clarification.

Plugin Updates with version 3.3 of NC State People (Sept. 2021)

  • Displaying Grants (New Feature)
    • NC State People now offers users the option to display research grants on their profile. Grants are pulled from the RADAR database and are only displayed if toggled on by the user.
    • There is also an option for users to configure how many grants are displayed (default of 10), and they may either sort by most recent (by end date value), or by highest awarded value. When toggled on, the grant titles display in an accordion, and when clicked display information about each grant.
    • Finally, if users would prefer to share all of their grant information, there is a “Show all Grants” option that links out to the WolfTech Grants Report Generator tool.

Plugin Updates with version 3.2 of NC State People (Summer 2021)

  • Individuals will be removed from a site’s directory when they are removed from the campus directory, which will help maintain an up-to-date directory when people leave the university.
  • Another major update is the ability for an individual to show their personal pronouns on their profile page.
