NC State Theme Release 4.4

The sun sets on a warm summer evening on Centennial Campus at the Hunt Library

This release of the NC State Theme includes many small improvements. Key updates include compatibility support for WordPress 6.6 and support for Gravity Forms new Orbital styling.

Several updates to improve the Academic Programs post type are also included. Content maintainers can now alter the name and URL structure of the post type to better convey their content and marketing needs. Updates to the post type also allow for the site’s masthead and menu to be hidden through a parameter in a program’s URL. This allows a program page to be used as a landing page within marketing and advertising campaigns.

There are also several bug fixes and quality of life enhancements.

New Features

  • Updated the theme to be compatible with the WordPress 6.6 features. (#153 & #154)
  • The Masthead and utility bar can now be hidden for Academic programs with the correct URL query parameter. To be used in conjunction with the NC State Ad Platform. (#156)
  • The ability to change the naming scheme of the Academic Programs CPT is now available under advanced settings. This works much like the Resource and Non-credit Program CPTs. (#166)
  • There is a new Gravity Forms theme release, v2.7. The new “Orbital Theme” changes the styling of Gravity Forms. This Gravity Form theme change, is now compatible with the NC State WordPress theme.

Bug Fixes

  • The Manual Event on the Fancy Paragraph was not syncing up with the site’s timezone. This is now rectified. (#152)
  • Options in Gravity Forms that had NC State were breaking. This was due to a filter that was inserting a non-breaking space for content. We removed this filter for content. (#155)
  • The sidebar was not intended to be visible on pages when the Compact masthead was active. It should no longer show up. (#162)
  • The sidebar links did not have the target set in order for menu items that were set to open in a new tab to do so. This is now fixed. (#163)
  • The styling on the pre-footer featured cards was broken causing it to move the last card to another line. This is now fixed. (#37 – part of the NC State Pro Add On)

Quality of Life Enhancements

  • Updated he Custom Post Type settings page to have more consistent verbiage. (#157)
  • Whitelisted several events calendar blocks in the events calendar post type’s default template. (#158)
  • Some of the render functions of blocks had sub-optimal function declarations. We moved them out of the render function. (#161 & #38 – part of the NC State Pro Add On)
  • The title of a page/post was sometimes truncated by Google. To avoid this, we updated the title to include the Metadata fields in order for google to find it. (#164)
  • We adjusted the placement of Compact Footer Social Icons to make them more centered in the top of the footer. (#167)
  • We updated The block contexts to include most blocks on the Synced Patterns editor. (#36 & #13 – part of the NC State Pro Add On and NC State Premium Add On, respectively)
