March 2025 Web Meeting
The Monthly Open Internal Web Meeting focused on NC State theme design system updates planned for mid-April release, including documentation improvements, Newswire functionality changes, and backend performance enhancements.
In this meeting we discussed ongoing design system adjustments to the NC State theme, including standardizing elements and leveraging new CSS functionality, with plans to release changes in mid-April. The team is working on improving documentation and Newswire functionality, adding search capabilities and refining the user experience for different tiers. Additionally, they addressed issues related to web publishing and discussed potential improvements to make the back-end more performant during site build-out.

- Design team to complete the second round of testing for the design system changes by the end of the day.

- OIT team to continue working on improving load time and performance for web publishing sites, aiming for noticeable improvements by midsummer.
- Development team to implement the VPN connection message in the WordPress backend for users not on the campus network.
- Development team to update the backend dashboard to display the theme tier information.
- Development team to add buttons for available blocks for pages and posts in the backend dashboard.
- Development team to add a search box in the backend similar to the one on the documentation site’s home page.
- Chris and Scott to finalize the design for adding documentation links in the sidebar panel for each block.
- Documentation team to prepare information on steps to improve backend performance during the build-out phase.
