On Demand Trainings

The following trainings provide information on how to effectively leverage different feature areas of the NC State Web Platform.

Overview

Each training enables access to different feature packs. Not all trainings need to be completed — some users will only need to use very focused features in the NC State Web Platform while others might need to leverage all of the platform’s functionality.

Trainings consist of short videos interspersed with hands-on tasks and opportunities to delve more deeply into the details of certain features. Each training concludes with a training quiz. A score of 80% or greater will immediately unlock access* to the blocks within a feature pack of the NC State Web Platform.

Completion of each training allows users to insert blocks from its feature pack. Users do not have to complete feature pack training to edit existing content on a site.

* Access to certain blocks may be restricted based upon the feature packs enabled on an individual site by the site’s administrator and/or the tier of the NC State Web Platform installed on the site.

Training for Existing Users

Prior to February 1, 2027 all back-end users of the NC State Web Platform will need to complete appropriate trainings and quizzes for the blocks they use. This will provide an opportunity for users to refamiliarize themselves with features within the web platform and learn about recently added functionality.

Users who are very well-versed with the platform and its functionality may opt to only complete each training’s quiz without reviewing the training’s material in detail.

September 24: Discovering the NC State Web Platform

This hands-on session with the UComm web team includes small-group breakouts, live page redesigns and an open Q&A. This lab is an opportunity to take a deeper dive into the NC State Web Platform and the various resources we offer.

The UComm web team will highlight recent updates to the platform and how you can get the most out of its features. We will also walk through approaches to meaningful email design leveraging our templates. Finally, there will be discussion around best practices in email communications and an open Q&A.

we will unpack the fundamentals of developing an information architecture. Topics covered will range from building a new page and designing your site’s menu, to curating the content of your homepage. This lab will provide practical strategies for organizing your site in a way that works for your audience.

WP Playground

You can leverage our WP Playground instance to easily spin up a small staging (or playground) area to explore using new blocks, learning a new skill, or just take a look at what some content may look like without editing your own site.

It’s used throughout these on demand trainings.

A few things to keep in mind:

  • Your changes aren’t saved between sessions unless you specifically save them.
  • This playground space only exists in your own browser on your device. There is no URL that you can share for others to take a look at your work — it is all self-contained on your device.
