Embed Block

The embed block in the editor of WordPress

Overview

Including content from third-party platforms such as YouTube, Vimeo, Instagram, Facebook and Twitter can help you better tell your story to users. The easiest way is to paste the content’s URL into the Embed block or just a paragraph block. WordPress will automatically import and format the content.

Many platforms, such as YouTube, let you copy and paste embed code. With WordPress you don’t need this code, and you’re encouraged not to use it. Pasting the URL is preferred because WordPress will embed the content in a mobile-friendly manner.

How to Get a URL to Embed

  1. Copy the address from your browser’s address bar. Do not use the platform’s embed code.
  2. Paste the URL into a paragraph block or an Embed block on your WordPress page.

If you are embedding a social media post:

  1. Click the individual post to open it in a lightbox or a new window.
  2. Copy the URL from the address bar.
  3. If that doesn’t work, look for a “More options” button, which usually links directly to the post.

Other Options

If you are embedding a YouTube video, you may want to use the Video Image block instead. It lets you set a still cover image and adds a branded play button in the lower left-hand corner.
